It’s nobody’s job but our own to discern between true servants who serve Christ and those who may “build up churches unto themselves.” Moroni and many others taught us clearly how to “judge righteous judgement” in knowing good from evil. Seeking and laboring to bring souls to Christ (and none else) is perhaps the ideal measuring stick. This serves as a sturdy framework to measuring fruits that are good, and fruits that are strange.

Jesus told his disciples how to discern between true prophets sent from Him and false prophets who are impostors: “By their fruits ye shall know them.” It’s a commandment from Jesus himself to inspect the fruits of those claiming to be prophets among us. How do real prophets act? What do they testify of? Do they unify a people or divide them? Does your prophet produce fruits or do they only pretend to “prophecy, see and reveal” due to a calling?

Isaiah saw the symbols of the house of Israel in the metaphor of the “vineyard in a very fruitful hill.” When the vineyard produced wild fruit, he declares “I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard” explaining the apostasy that occurs when the Lord of the vineyard starves the vineyard of nurture, care, weeding and rain. The parallels to the last days are compared in the parable of the redemption of Zion.

The prophet Jeremiah stands with Isaiah and Book of Mormon Prophets warning God’s people in the last days about ravening wolves in white robes, who lead the people of the Lord’s house through darkness, confusion, apostasy and eventually destruction. The Lord offers mercy and opportunities to repent and come unto Him and be numbered among his true flock, and be led by the true Shepherd.
