We’ll explore the many simple and precise “power verses,” and show you a pattern to spot that helps the doctrine of Christ leap out of the pages and give you new eyes for Christ’s doctrine in the scriptures.

The Doctrine of Christ in 10 Seconds

The doctrine of Christ has major thematic components to it. These can be spotted and identified through a variety of scriptures. Different prophets taught the concepts similarly, but sometimes in different choices of words. This guide is designed to help you see the patterns of similarity between verses. In many “power verses” of in the scriptures, you’ll find the doctrine of Christ in 10 seconds – short, concise and accurate overviews of the simple doctrine that Christ taught.

The Four Core Parts of the Doctrine of Christ

The doctrine of Christ has four main parts, numbered below in bold text. Each of these four parts has similar terms and meanings in different phrases. A few examples in each of the four major components are listed in bullet points below, but there are more.

1. Come Unto Christ

  • Broken heart & contrite spirit
  • Faith unto repentance
  • Keep His commandments
  • Baptism of water

2. Baptized by Fire & Holy Ghost

  • 1st comforter
  • Filled with Holy Ghost
  • Redeemed
  • Enter the gate

3. Endure to the End

  • Walk the straight path
  • Hold to the iron rod
  • Feast on the words of Christ

4. Eternal life

  • 2nd comforter
  • Saved / salvation
  • Entering into the Lord’s rest
  • Kingdom of God

Finding the Doctrine of Christ in “Power Verse” Scriptures

1 Nephi 13:37
37 And blessed are they who shall seek to bring forth my Zion at that day, for they shall have the gift and the power of the Holy Ghost; and if they endure unto the end they shall be lifted up at the last day, and shall be saved in the everlasting kingdom of the Lamb; and whoso shall publish peace, yea, tidings of great joy, how beautiful upon the mountains shall they be.
2 Nephi 31:11,15
11 And the Father said: Repent ye, repent ye, and be baptized in the name of my Beloved Son
…
15 And I heard a voice from the Father, saying; Yea, the words of my Beloved are true and faithful. He that endureth to the end, the same shall be saved.
Jacob 6:11
11 O Then, my beloved bretheren, repent ye, and enter in at the strait gate, and continue in the way which is narrow, until ye shall obtain eternal life.
Omni 1:26
26 And now, my beloved brethren, I would that ye should come unto Christ, who is the Holy One of Israel, and partake of his salvation, and the power of his redemption, Yea, come unto him, and offer your whole souls as an offering unto him, and continue in fasting and praying, and endure to the end; and as the Lord liveth ye will be saved.
Alma 5:13
13 And behold, he preached the word unto your fathers, and a mighty change was also wrought in their hearts, and they humbled themselves and put their trust in the true and living God. And behold, they were faithful until the end; therefore they were saved.
Alma 32:13
13 And now, because ye are compelled to be humble blessed are ye; for a man sometimes, if he is compelled to be humble, seeketh repentance; and now surely, whosoever repenteth shall find mercy; and he that findeth mercy and endureth to the end the same shall be saved.
3 Nephi 11:38
38 And again I say unto you, ye must repent, and be baptized in my name, and become as a little child, or ye can in nowise inherit the kingdom of God.
3 Nephi 27:16
16 And it shall come to pass, that whoso repenteth and is baptized in my name shall be filled; and if he endureth to the end, behold, him will I hold guiltless before my Father at that day when I shall stand to judge the world.
Ether 4:18-19
18 Therefore, repent all ye ends of the earth, and come unto me, and believe in my gospel, and be baptized in my name; for he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned; and signs shall follow them that believe in my name.
19 And blessed is he that is found faithful unto my name at the last day, for he shall be lifted up to dwell in the kingdom prepared for him from the foundation of the world. And behold it is I that hath spoken it.
Moroni 8:26
26 And the remission of sins bringeth meekness, and lowliness of heart; and because of meekness and lowliness of heart cometh the visitation of the Holy Ghost, which Comforter filleth with hope and perfect love, which love endureth by diligence unto prayer, until the end shall come, when all the saints shall dwell with God.
Mosiah 5:15
15 Therefore, I would that ye should be steadfast and immovable, always abounding in good works, that Christ, the Lord God Omnipotent, may seal you his, that you may be brought to heaven, that ye may have everlasting salvation and eternal life, through the wisdom, and power, and justice, and mercy of him who created all things, in heaven and in earth, who is God above all. Amen.
2 Nephi 31:18-19
18 And then are ye in this strait and narrow path which leads to eternal life; yea, ye have entered in by the gate; ye have done according to the commandments of the Father and the Son; and ye have received the Holy Ghost, which witnesses of the Father and the Son, unto the fulfilling of the promise which he hath made, that if ye entered in by the way ye should receive.
19 And now, my beloved brethren, after ye have gotten into the strait and narrow path, I would ask if all is done? Behold, I say unto you, Nay; for ye have not come thus far save it were by the word of Christ with unshaken faith in him, relying wholly upon the merits of him who is mighty to save.
Mosiah 15:22-23
22 And now, the resurrection of all the prophets, and all those that have believed in their words, or all those that have kept the commandments of God, shall come forth in the first resurrection; therefore, they are the first resurrection.
23 They are raised to dwell with God who has redeemed them; Thus they have eternal life through Christ, who has broken the bands of death. (Book of Mormon)
D&C 14:7
7 And if you keep my commandments and endure to the end you shall have eternal life, which gift is the greatest of all the gifts of God.
Romans 5:1-2
1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
Alma 13:29
29 Having faith on the Lord; having a hope that ye shall receive eternal life; having the love of God always in your hearts, that ye may be lifted up at the last day and enter into his rest.
Moses 7:45
45 And it came to pass that Enoch looked; and from Noah, he beheld all the families of the earth; and he cried unto the Lord, saying: When shall the day of the Lord come? When shall the blood of the Righteous be shed, that all they that mourn may be sanctified and have eternal life?
D&C 10:67,69
67 Behold, this is my doctrine—whosoever repenteth and cometh unto me, the same is my church.
