Receiving The Sealed Portion & The Land of Promise

Moroni explains that the latter-day gentiles may receive of the sealed portion of the Book of Mormon. To do so, they must exercise faith like unto the Brother of Jared and remember to serve the God of the land (Jesus Christ). If they do not repent and return to the Lord, they will not receive the greater portion. They will be swept off the land of promise.

A Land of Promise to the Jaredites

• Ether 1:1-2,33-43 – Moroni gives the account of the Jaredites from the 24 plates found by Limhi. The brother of Jared, highly favored of the Lord cried unto the Lord that He would preserve their language. In response the Lord directed them to go to the land Northward, Jared, their families and their friends and families
• Ether 2:1,4-16,18-25 – Moroni’s Commentary:
  • Jaredites to be taken to a Land of Promise. (7-12)
  • The God of this Land of Promise, Jesus Christ (v12), preserved this land for a righteous people (v7).
  • All who dwell on this land should serve the true and only God or should be swept off. (V11)
  • Moroni declares that this record will go to the LDS Gentiles, that we may repent and not continue in our iniquities or we will also be destroyed like the previous inhabitants of the land. (12-16, 19-25)
  • The Lord chastened the brother of Jared for not calling upon his name. (v14)
  • The brother of Jared had a special spiritual gift, access to the voice of the Lord which he neglected. The Children of Israel and the early saints had a special invitation through the doctrine of Christ and open heavens to become sons of God.

A Desolating Scourge Begins In His House

• D&C 45:1-2,28-33 – Lest Summer shall be over and death over take you.
• D&C 112:24-26 – Desolating Scourge. “Vengeance cometh speedily upon the inhabitants of the earth, a day of wrath, a day of burning, a day of desolation, of weeping, of mourning, and of lamentation; and as a whirlwind it shall come upon all the face of the earth, saith the Lord. And upon my house shall it begin, and from my house shall it go forth, saith the Lord;”

Bringing Forth of the Sealed Portion of The Book of Mormon

• Ether 4:1-19 – The sealed portion of the Book of Mormon (the things which the brother of Jared saw) will come forth in the day in which those Latter-day Saints embrace the doctrine of Christ (repent of their iniquity) and receive the BOFHG (become clean before me). Among those who receive this record, it will act as a catalyst for those who exercise faith in Christ (seek after, receive, and act on revelation) as did the brother of Jared to receive the vision of all things (then will I manifest unto them the things which the brother of Jared saw, even to the unfolding unto them all my revelations)
