Since the fall of mankind, Christ has taught the perfect path back to the presence of God. Unclean man and woman cannot stand in the presence of their God in the flesh, and avoid destruction. They who are cleansed and purified are transfigured and enter into His rest, “which rest is the fulness of his glory” to obtain “life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ.”

Enoch’s work in a distant historical time prepared the Lord’s people for a millennial reign of peace by completing the holy city, a New Jerusalem. Joseph Smith shares a similar assignment in these pre-millennial last days, called to fulfill his mission to turn the people back to the Lord, overthrow the Lord’s enemies, redeem Zion, build the New Jerusalem and prepare his people for heaven.

The key to all spiritual progress in coming unto Christ is a simple, yet difficult task: to offer unto Him a broken heart and a contrite spirit. Jesus showed us how to do this throughout his ministry, but particularly in his most difficult hour: “Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.” He has asked us to take up our cross and follow Him.

Jesus taught his disciples and followers his doctrine, outlining how one is to grow in their faith in God. The object of our faith is to obtain pure, first-hand knowledge for ourselves “looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.” Jesus offers us this pure knowledge for ourselves as we follow Him and enjoy the full baptismal experience and prepare ourselves to meet God.

JST Genesis 50 details the 2nd great deliverance of the children of Israel in their universal state of bondage in the last days, by one mighty and strong who is like unto Moses. “I will remember you from generation to generation; and his name shall be called Joseph, and it shall be after the name of his father… for the thing which the Lord shall bring forth by his hand shall bring my people unto salvation.”

There’s no fooling God. Men can pretend righteousness, but only God can authorize the justification and sanctification of an individual. Nephi states that “if ye shall follow the Son, with full purpose of heart, acting no hypocrisy and no deception before God” that God will baptize you with fire and the Holy Ghost. This prepares one to receive “another comforter,” the Holy Spirit of Promise, which is Jesus Christ himself.
