Nephi’s Sealing Power & The Holy Order of God
Nephi “with unwearyingness declared the word” without fear of men and with continuous diligence in keeping God’s commandments. Having been tested to the core, the Lord saw fit to give Nephi the sealing power to bind on earth and heaven, knowing that he would not do things that are contrary to God’s will. What is this power Nephi received and how does one receive it? What is the holy order of God?
- Helaman 6:1-9,14-41 – The Lamanites become more righteous than the Nephites who ripened for everlasting destruction. The Chief judges are murdered. The Lord blessed the people with prosperity and they began setting their heart on riches and pride. They were so distracted that the secret combinations established by Gadianton and Kishkumen (based on secret oaths and covenants, using murder and theft to amass riches) gained a strong hold. The Lamanites rooted out the Gadiantons among them by hunting them and preaching the doctrine of Christ to them.
- Helaman 7:1-29 – Nephi Laments to the Lord upon his garden tower about his people’s decent into wickedness. Nephi calls his people out on their wickedness and warns them to repent or be destroyed.
- Helaman 8:1-28 – The Gadianton Robbers are angered by Nephi’s words. Nephi testifies that all the holy prophets taught the doctrine of Christ. Nephi declares that the Nephites have rejected Christ and his doctrine. God reveals to Nephi that their Chief Judge has been murdered.
- Helaman 9:1-41 – Nephi is exonerated through the exercise of the gift of prophecy and revelation.
