📖 Summary & Study guide

King of Babylon’s Genocidal Rampage

Isaiah describes “hewn down” trees, symbolizing the killing of people in massive genocidal wars (Isaiah 10:32-34). The daughters of Zion fall prey to “a mighty one.”

Isaiah 10:32-34
32 As yet shall he remain at Nob that day: he shall shake his hand against the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.
33 Behold, the Lord, the Lord of hosts, shall lop the bough with terror: and the high ones of stature shall be hewn down, and the haughty shall be humbled.
34 And he shall cut down the thickets of the forest with iron, and Lebanon shall fall by a mighty one.

End-time Servant Delivers the Faithful

God’s end-time servant awakes and arises and has the spirit of the Lord (Isaiah 42:1, Isaiah 61:1).

Isaiah 42:1
1 Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.

Isaiah 61:1
1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

He receives a commission to teach the doctrine of Christ. God gives this servant the power to gather and lead out the Lord’s people on an end-time exodus and save them from the king of babylon. (Isaiah 11/2 Nephi 21).

The Lord’s people sing a song of rejoicing to him after they receive deliverance from bondage and death (Isaiah 12/2 Nephi 22). The king of Assyria destroys the world, among the unfaithful. Those who accept God’s covenant receive His protection to the extent that they live the everlasting covenant. These are the wheat whom the Lord gathers out from among the tares.

The Lord’s end time servant ultimately destroys the Assyrian King / King of Babylon (Isaiah 13/2 Nephi 23).
