New Jerusalem & The City of Enoch’s Return

5
(15)

Enoch received an everlasting covenant from God, with a promise that the Lord would return to the earth and dwell among the righteous of Noah’s seed. The inhabitants of the city of Enoch will return to the earth also to assist Joseph in the work of building the Holy City, called the New Jerusalem. A “city of Enoch” for our day is afoot, while truth and righteousness is now flooding the earth in preparation.

📖 Summary & Study guide

God’s Promise to Enoch: Zion Will Return

Enoch wept and pled with the Lord for an answer as to when the Lord would return to the earth. The Lord promised to return again to the earth in the last days. He would dwell among His people and bless the seed of Enoch (through Noah). However, before this happens, the Lord warns Enoch that “heavens shall be darkened, and a veil of darkness shall cover the earth; and the heavens shall shake, and also the earth; and great tribulations shall be among the children of men” (Moses 6:61).

After the tribulation of the last days, the Lord promises “but my people will I preserve.” God will cause a movement to “sweep the earth as with a flood” with righteousness and truth. This movement will gather out the elect and gather them into the garners for protection and salvation. The Lord will dwell among his people again. For there shall be my tabernacle, and it shall be called Zion, a New Jerusalem” (Moses 6:62).

New Jerusalem Will Be in North America

The Lord “showed Enoch all things, even unto the end of the world” (Moses 7:67), which included the future Zion (New Jerusalem). Ether also prophesied “of all things, from the beginning of man” but they rejected his words. North America became a designated promised land, since the waters abated from the flood (Ether 13:2) and is the location of New Jerusalem. This New Jerusalem will be in North America (3 Nephi 20:22). The gentiles will assist Manasseh in building up the New Jerusalem (3 Nephi 20:23). “Mount Zion” is the same thing as the New Jerusalem (D&C 84:1-5,31-32,46-48).

The “remnant of Jacob” will teach the doctrine of Christ to the scattered branches of Israel and gather then to the New Jerusalem (3 Nephi 21:20-29). Enoch describes the New Jerusalem as a place where the Church of the Firstborn is gathered and dwell for a time (JST Genesis 9:21-25). The city of Enoch returns to the earth. D&C 88:67-68,70-116,18-26).

The path of ascension is to come forth in the morning of the first resurrection, or to descend with Christ (D&C 76:50-69).
